Life and pious foundations of Gedik Ahmed Pasha (D.1482)

Gedik Ahmed Pasha is one of the most important statesmen of Ottoman Empire who lived in the fifteenth century. He served as the governor of Rum state (eyalet), Anatolian state, Vizier and Grand Vizier during the reign of II. Mehmed Gedik Ahmed Pasha was discharged from Grand Vizierate and prisoned in Rumelian Fortress because of not obeying and wanting to join the military expedition to Albania where he was inducted to be the army commander. He was forgiven on the sake of his past accomplishments and he was indicted from Kapu to being a governor of sandjak in Gelibolu and then in Avlonya. Gedik Ahmed Pasha was in a very critical position during the throne fights between II. Beyazid and Sultan Djem. He continued serving as a Vizier during II. Beyazid government and put to death in Edirne Palace at 18 November 1482 (H.6 Sevval 887). He constructed various foundation institutions in Istanbul, Kutahya, Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, and Ivranya. 15th Century is considered to be the early histography of Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately, due to the limited resources in his lifetime, the details of Gedik Ahmed Pasha's life are still not cleared. This research's purpose is to give comprehensive information about Gedik Ahmed Pasha's life, military operations, foundation and institutions established by him. In this study chronicles and limited archival sources used.
