The Scructure of traditional Safranbolu houses

The subject of this thesis is tlie structural elements of Safranbolu hauses. which reflect Llie traditional timber structures very well. Tiie cultural and technological reasons responsible for the evolution of structural systems are discussed in the study. The thesis consists of six chapters. In the first chapter, the problem is forward the evolution, after the object and sccoe of the stud/ is exolanied. structural elements like walls, floorings and roofs-which make up the traditional struc tures are dealt with in detail, historical evolution of this elements and their materials is analysed: and a general literature survev is made. In the second chapter- the local, i an history, historical development. physical and evrivonmental conditions of this particular area is described and the methodology of research is explanied. the general architectural characteristics of traditional Safranbolu houses, the structural materials, their utilization in the building structure, and their distribution in the area is given. The third chapter deals with the structural elements used in the area. Numerical values are obtained bv means of inquiries, mesaured data: drawings floor, first and second floor wall tvpes and propor- tions. typology and dimensions of projections their locations in the area, roof types and proportions are analysed. In the fourth chapter, through the optained detas. the elements of structure are discussed. In the fifth chapter, the results obtained are discussed.
