Investigation of the effect of traditional street games on the attention development of 9-10 years old children

The purpose of this research; The aim of this study is to examine the effect of 8-week traditional street games applied to children aged 9-10 on the change in attention development levels. In accordance with this purpose, the D2 attention test and personal information form were applied to 40 people, 20 of whom were in the experimental group and 20 in the control group, studying at Private Kıvılcım Primary School in Tarsus, Mersin. As the experimental model, the pretest-posttest design with the experimental control group was applied in two stages. Quantitative research method was used as a method in the research. In the study, demographic information of the participants, including age and gender, was obtained. All data obtained in the research were recorded and evaluated with the help of SPSS 25 IBM (statistical package for the social sciences) package program. In statistical analyzes, normality distribution tests of the data were performed, and the data were summarized by giving the mean and standard deviations. Whether the data showed normal distribution or not was determined by the shapiro wilk normality test. T test was used for the difference between the experimental and control groups. Paired sample t-test was used for in-group comparisons. In this study, the error level was accepted as p>0.05. Considering the data obtained in our study, when the pre-test and post-tests of the experimental and control groups were compared, significant differences were found in favor of the experimental group in terms of psycho-motor speed (TN), sustained attention (TN-E), and focused attention (CP) variables (p<0.05). In this context, in our study, it was seen that traditional street games for 8 weeks and 32 hours, which we applied to children aged 9-10, had a significant and positive effect on the attention development of children.
