Abstract (EN)

Ships are among the most crucial components of maritime transportation.. Ensuring the safe and cost-effective operation of ships is a top priority for the sector. To this end, this study aims to analyze the failures of steam boiler heating systems installed on ships and assess the associated risks. For this purpose, an analysis of steam boiler system failures and risk assessment was conducted, focusing on a fleet of 14 Ro-Ro ships currently in commercial operation. Steam system failure records between 2002 and 2022 for this fleet were compiled to create a risk map. A total of 296 steam system failure records for this fleet were obtained from the planned maintenance system. In this study, these data were first analyzed using the Bayesian Network model and subsequently the Fault Tree Analysis model to identify the most high-risk components within the steam system. As a result of the study, the risk value for the ship's steam system was determined to be 9%. It was found that the most high-risk component of the steam system is the oil fired boiler. Further examination of oil fired boiler failures revealed that the burner equipment and high-pressure fuel pump within the oil fired boiler are the highest-risk components within it.
