Investigation of the body perception and exercise addiction levels of young adults

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the body image and exercise addiction levels of male individuals aged 21-32 in terms of some variables. The sample of this research consists of a total of 631 volunteer male participants between the ages of 21-32, selected by convenience sampling method from the population living in Ankara. In the research, data were collected with scale and form. The data regarding body perception of the study was obtained with "Body Perception Scale", and the data regarding exercise addiction levels was obtained with "Exercise Addiction Scale-21". Data regarding socio-demographic information was obtained with the "Personal Information Form". In addition, the male adults participating in the study were informed and a consent form was taken. In order to analyze the data obtained, t-test was applied to compare two groups and ANOVA test was applied to evaluate the difference between more than two groups and subscales. According to the results of this research, it was determined that the dimensions of age, smoking and alcohol use did not create a significant difference in terms of exercise addiction and body perception, while it was determined that the perceived weight perception of the participants, weekly exercise durations and licensed athlete backgrounds created a significant difference in terms of body perception and exercise addiction.
