Abstract (EN)
Gestational diabetes mellitus is defined as a type of diabetes that appears first in pregnancy in women that previously don't have the disease. An adipose tissue originated hormone adiponectin plays an important role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Another adipose tissue hormone asprosin triggers glucose release from liver and suppresses insuline secretion from pancreatic β cells. In the present study serum levels of adiponectin which has antidiabetogenic effect and asprosin which has diabetogenic effect was measured in 44 pregnant with gestational diabetes mellitus and 44 pregnants without gestational diabetes mellitus. Study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Medical School of Adiyaman University. Serum adiponectin and asprosin concentration was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Demographic parameters such as age, BMI, gravida, parity, abortus were also evaluated. Serum adiponectin levels were statistically significantly lower (6,917± 3,515 mg/L ve 9,135 ± 4,258 mg/L p=0.0095) while serum asprosin levels were higher but not statistically significant (67,21 ± 57,83 ng/ml ve 47,08 ± 50,57 ng/ml, p=0.0933) in pregnants with gestational diabetes mellitus. In conclusion, low levels of adiponectin and high levels of asprosin in pregnants may be evaluated as risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus.
