Legends of Giresun

The subject of this study is the legends narrated in Giresun. According to this our study consists of two main parts: 1. Theoretical information about the legends. 2. The texts of the legends Up to present time, the legends narrated in many cities have been written down and many studies have done about them. Although there ara a lot of legends narrated in Giresun and its surroundings there haven't been any studies done on this subject except the graduation theses. Most of the legends in the graduation theses have been taken from the written materials. By studying and collectingthe legends narrated in Giresun, we have purposed writing them down and we have intended to offer them in use of the scientific wold. Because these produces which constitute the basis of our national culture are getting disappeared more and more every single day against the developing technology. We did much of our study in the region because our thesis is formed by the legends texts in general. Most of the legends taken from the narrators and take part in our study were written down while they were being narrated. For the pre paration of this study a lot of works which have been done about legends our country before have been reviewed. This thes is consists of introduction two main part, conclusion and the bibliograpy. Introduction contains general knowledge on the collection of the legends. Part I cotains the definition of the legends concept, Its characteristics. Its relations with the other oral narrative types, studies done of the legends and effects of the legend in the society... e.t.c. Part II comprises 170 legends' texts which have been compiled by us in the region, and their episodes in. 51 legends have taken from the books and magazines and the others have compiled from the narrators. After the legends texts conclusion, the list of narrators and the bibliograpy take part in the thesis. XIV
