Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine supervisors' and school administrators' understanding and teachers' expectations of supervision according to Glickman's developmental supervision model. Design of the study is a relational survey. The population consists of supervisors working in Antalya province as well as teachers and school administrators working at (public and private) primary and secondary schools in central districts and Serik province of Antalya and. Sampling was not used for supervisors owing to their limited number. For the teachers and school administrators, proportioned cluster sampling method was used. In 2013- 2014 academic year, 70 supervisors, 529 teachers and 66 administrators from six central districts of Antalya were included in the study. As the data collection instrument, a questionnaire developed by the researcher was used in this study. This instrument consists of two main parts: in the first part is related questions of demographic variables and there are five scenarios written according to Glickman's developmental supervision model in the second part. Four choices including four supervision behaviours and an empty line for the open-ended answer choice are given under each scenario. The data collection instrument was conducted in February and March, 2014. Data was analyzed in SPSS 20.0 program and non-parametric tests, because of being ordinal scale of the instrument, were applied as well as frequencies and percentages as data analyzing techniques. Mann-Whitney U test was used when the level of independent variables was two, and Kruskal Wallis test was used when the level of independent variables was more than two. In the results of the study, supervisors' and school administrators' understanding and teachers' expectations of supervision were found in line with Glickman's developmental supervision for only scenario 2. It was found that collaborative behaviour was selected for Scenario 1 in which directive control behavior was required. The data also showed that directive informational behaviour was reported for Scenario 3 in which collaborative behavior was required, and finally collaborative behaviour was selected for Scenario 4 in which nondirective behaviour was required. Collaborative behaviour with the highest answer rates, was reported for Scenario 5, in which no specific behaviour was required Among supervisors, there were meaningul differences according to educational status in Scenerio 1, managerial seniority in Scenerio 2 and inspectorship seniority in Scenerio 5. Among administrators, there were meaningful differences according to the field of study in Scenerio 4 and educational posirion in Scenerio 2. Among teachers, there were meaningful differences according to type of school in Scenerio 1 and the field of study in Scenerio 5. Keywords: Glickman's Developmental Supervision, Directive Control Behavior, Diretive Informational Behavior, Collaborative Behavior, NonDirective Behavior.
