Abstract (EN)
In this study, the wood anatomical properties of 4 shrub taxa belonging to 3 genera in the Asteraceae family were determined: Helichrysum armenium DC., Helichrysum orientale (L.) Gaertn., Pentanema verbascifolium (Willd.) D.Gut.Larr., Santos-Vicente, Anderb., E.Rico & M.M.Mart.Ort, Phagnalon graecum Boiss. & Heldr.. Qualitative and quantitative wood anatomy traits of the studied species were determined. Tangential and radial diameters of the vessel, vessel member length, the vessel wall thickness, fiber length and width, fiber lumen width and wall thickness, the heights of uniseriate and multiseriate ray, and the widths of multiseriate ray were measured on wood sections and maceration samples. The number of vessels per unit area and the number of rays per mm were determined. Qualitative traits such as growth ring and ring boundaries, perforation plate type, the presence of vascular tracheids and helical thickening, and axial parenchyma were also determined. Woods of the examined Asteraceae species can be characterized by the presence of narrow vessel cells, siple perforation plates, heterocellular rays, helical thickening and vascular tracheids.
