Reading movies with signs: 'Beni Çok Sev' movie example

The visual indicators throughout life are the factors that make culture-based communication easier. Semiotics is the study of understanding these factors and analysis. Semiotics communicate the messages requested by the source to the other side with straight and side meanings by visual and auditory indicators. From painting to sculpture, from music to literature in almost every field, Semiotics has found its place in cinema with the advancing technology since 1960s. The use of semiotic analyses in cinema, indicates the importance of understanding how the event pattern is set up and how it is transmitted to the audience. Cinema is the latest field in these analyses; editing fiction, camera shots, time and space usage, role and dress choices have strengthened cinema presentation in the field of semiotics. The fact that the direct and indirect messages in cinema are transmitted to the audience through the indicators used by the director demonstrates the function of semiotics. Apart from the direct meanings that the audience sees and understands, the side meanings created by images and sounds add depth to the art of cinema. In this study, the aim of the visual and auditory indicators in a fictional film is to examine the contribution of the narrative and the audience reaction to the narrative. The purpose was to highlight the importance of the message intended to be transmitted to the audience by the indicators, used directly or indirectly. The aim of this study is to highlight decor, time, space, costume, hair, makeup designs, colors, dialog and music that contribute to the power of cinema. In this context, the indicators of Mehmet Ada Öztekin's film "Beni Çok Sev"; are examined and explained with the direct and the indirect messages that are intended to be revealed.
