Hydrogeological examination of water resources in the Gülşehir region

Abstract (EN)

The study area covers the region to thenorth of Kızılırmak River between Nevşehir province Gülşehir and Avanos districts. In the area, the Paleozoic-Mesozoic metamorphites of the Kırşehir massif and the Late Cretaceous igneous rocks cutting them form in the area. Late Paleocene-Middle Eocene sedimentary units overlap these units unconformably. The Middle Miocene-Quaternary units unconformably cover the underlying units. The area is tectonically quite fault edand fractured. In this study, the geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the region were examined. The groundwater map has been prepared and the flow direction is towards Kızılırmak in the south, although there are some current differences. In addition, underground waters feeding Kızılırmak. Water samples taken from the field werea nalyzed in the laboratory and evaluated in the necessary diagrams. Assessment information sources are rich in calcium, sulfate and bicarbonate ions. These waters are Ca-HCO3 type waters with high carbonate alkalinity and high carbonate and hardness. The fact that these waters have the feature of Ca-HCO3 shows that the waters are fed from a carbonate aquifer. The same clustering of waters on the Piper diagram indicate that they are fed from the same or similar aquifer.
