An investigation of current street design approaches: A proposal for Tekirdağ Çandarlizade İbrahi̇m Paşa streetscape

Streets are a network of social, economic, and physical activities. Successful urban streets have provided various functions in addition to just transporting people and goods from place to place. The streets, which have very different functions in terms of both socio-cultural and commercial aspects, also stand out with their recreational functions. Different street design strategies are introduced as an answer to these challenges, as they can fulfill this multitude of functions; they are not only traffic infrastructures, but also lively and inclusive public places, carriers of economic development, ecological corridors supporting ecosystem services and lines of technical infrastructures including street and traffic lighting, electrical power, signalization etc. Complete Streets, Green Streets, Healthy streets are all concept ideas and initiatives that have evolved to address issues related to the planning and design of street environments that each has their own focus and the definitions. This thesis introduces the current street design approaches and proposes to integrate principles into Çandarlı İbrahim Paşa Street in Tekirdağ that is located in new neighborhoods as the population exponentially grow selected and evaluated in terms of design criteria and landscape elements as case study. Based on the current Street design approaches and evaluation user opinion about Tekirdağ's Street use. The change Tekirdağ has undergone from past to present has led to the formation of many innovations. Despite this, it can be said that there are still inadequacies for both pedestrians and vehicles in many regions. In order to evaluate these competencies or inadequacies with quantitative data in terms of residents perception, questions about various design and landscape elements were asked to a group of 352 participants. The answers obtained were evaluated in the SPSS analysis program. The graphics of the data obtained within the scope of the study were evaluated and design alternatives were presented.
