Investigation of the mathematical contexts emerged by the process of the use of the sundial in terms of the mathematics program

The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the mathematical contexts of sundials in terms of mathematics curriculum according to teacher opinions. In this study, the opinions of mathematics teachers in Kırşehir province about the mathematical contexts that emerged during the use of sundials in the 2020-2021 academic year were examined. In this study, which was conducted with the interview method, the data were collected by interviewing 10 mathematics teachers. The data collected at the end of the research were grouped under five themes. These are determined as "Sundials-Measurement relationship", "Sundials-Geometry relationship", "Geometry-Ratio proportional relationship", "Sundials-Interdisciplinary relationship" and "Mathematics teachers' opinions about sundials". As a result of the research, some of the mathematics teachers stated that the use of sundials in the lesson would be useful in associating them with the subjects in the mathematics curriculum, and it would be useful to use them in association with the subjects of time measurement, geometry, and proportion in the curriculum. They also stated that using sundials in the teaching process by associating them with other disciplines would be very beneficial in teaching.
