Investigation of hydrogeological and hydrochemical characteristic of the Guzelyurt (Aksaray) and its surrounding areas

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the important water resources used for covering drinking and irrigation demands in the Güzelyurt (Aksaray) were investigated in terms of hydrogeochemistry. The study area and its surroundings consist of lithodem and lithostratigraphic units. The basement of the study area is composed of the lithodem units defined as the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex (OAKK). The lithostratigraphic units are characterised by terrestrial, lacustrine and volcanic deposits. Chemical analyses of waters were performed for the samples collected during the May and September sampling periods. The result of physical and chemical analys showed that the values of pH, electrical conductivity (EC), dissolved solid (TÇKM), and hardness, are range between 6.7- 8.4 and 6.7- 7.9, 154- 3420 and 131.9- 2990 µS/cm, 119- 2525 and 113- 2732 mg/L and 53.7- 1030 and 78- 1419 mg/L, respectively. The test of the results of the results showed that, the dominant cation is Ca + 2 and the dominant anion is HCO3- for the sampling periods of May 2015 and September 2015. All water samples have CaHCO3 facies. Durıng this sampling period, the type of water facies is generally the same. Where in the arid period, The Ca + 2 and Mg + ions are more dissolved and are characterized as the dominant cations. Cation and anion contents were enriched by means of water-rock interaction and where as the effect of evaporation and crystallization is low in this process. According to arsenic (As) measurements that were carried out during both sampling periods, the arsenic contents of all water samples are above the limit values. Narlıgöl hot and mineral water source is the most important geothermal potential of the region. Narlıgöl hot and mineral water source has longer water-rock interaction than other waters where the Narlıgöl hot and mineral water source is mixed at different rates with younger, cooler underground waters. The hot water mixing ratio determined by the Entalpi-Silica Mixing Model varies between 69% and 76%. The reservoir rock temperatures for Narlıgöl hot and mineral water source change between 94 to 157 ° C.
