Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted on 40 male and 40 female adults to research the dietary inflammatory index of overweight and obese individuals. According to waist/height ratio, 52.5% of men and 95% of women are in the very high risk group. It was determined that 2.5% of men were sedentary, 7.5% were less active, and 12.5% of women were less active. Dietary inflammatory index (DII) of the diets of individuals was calculated and divided into 3 quartiles. The first quartile represents the anti-inflammatory diet, the second quartile is the anti-inflammatory diet, and the third quartile is the pro-inflammatory diet. The diet of 30% of the men was found to have an anti-inflammatory effect (DII Q1), the diet of 30% of them had no effect on inflammation (DII Q2), and the diet of 40% had a pro-inflammatory effect (DII Q3). In women, these rates are 37.5%, 35%, and 27.5%, respectively. Average fiber, omega-3, vitamin A, carotene and vitamin E intakes of men and women consuming anti-inflammatory (DII Q1) diets; were found to be higher than those who consumed ineffective (DII Q2) and pro-inflammatory (DII Q3) diets (p<0.05). The mean vitamin D and vitamin E intakes of those consuming pro-inflammatory (DII Q3) diets were lower than those consuming anti-inflammatory (DII Q1) diets (p<0.05). B12 and selenium intakes were found to be higher in those who consumed anti-inflammatory diets (p>0.05). The blood lipid levels of the individuals were not different according to the DII quartiles (p>0.05). Anti-inflammatory diet and increased physical activity are important in terms of reducing the risk of chronic disease.
