An analysis of Hakan Günday's "Kinyas and Kayra" in terms of word groups

In our study, Kinyas ve Kayra, one of the rare examples of underground literature in Turkish literature written by Hakan Günday, a leading figure of contemporary Turkish fiction, has been examined in terms of word groups. The novel consists of three main sections: Kinyas Kayra and Life, Kayra's Path, and Kinyas's Path. Within the scope of the study, selected sample sentences from each of these sections have been analyzed. The primary aim of the study is to systematically reveal the variety of word groups used in the novel, their functions, and their positions within sentences. The first chapter focuses on the life of the author, his literary identity, works, and previous theses written about Hakan Günday. This section is important in terms of providing a broader understanding of the author's literary perspective and the general characteristics of his works. The second chapter, on the other hand, deals with syntax and word groups in the context of Turkey Turkish, elaborating on the structures, functions, and roles of word groups within sentences. This chapter has served as the theoretical framework of the research. In the third chapter, examples of word groups identified in Kinyas ve Kayra are presented. Possessive groups, noun and adjective phrases, verbal (non-finite verb) groups, abbreviation groups, instrumental groups, and relative groups are analyzed through selected examples from different parts of the novel. The study highlights the frequency, functions, and meanings that word groups add to sentences, thus providing significant findings on the functioning of Turkish syntax and word group structures in literary texts.
