The number of minority schools has risen countrywide after 1839, 1856 and 1908. Religious leaders has become the administrators and inspectors of these self-established schools. Attempts of the state to supervise these schools have become ineffective. These schools have determined their own instructors and syllabuses. Jewish people have paid attention on Turkish language education as well as giving education on native language. Protestants educating the students in mixed formation at most among the minorities, has become the most-emphasizing group intended to the education on highschools and girls. The schools belonging to Armenians and Protestants in Halep are the most in number. Financial expenditures of these groups have been met by congregations and wealthy people.
