Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTThe Ottaman Empire, wich could not achieve necessary against the developedwestern civilization, started reform movements. Same attempts on the alphabet alsotook place among these mevements. Discussion wich started during the period of MünifPaşa, the Minister of Education ( Münif paşa was the minister for three times: the firstin 1877, the second in 1878 and the third between 1884-1889) soon appeared in thenewspapers and journals. While there were samowho agreed with Münif Paşa onreforming the Arabic Alphabet, there were some others suporting the idea of adoptingthe Latin Alphabet.The media in Çorum also participadet in these discussions wich continued until1928, when the latter Revolution was realized. Çorum, the only newspaper puplished inÇorum, tried to inform people by writing about the activities accuring in the whalecountry. Aiming to introduce the new letters firstly, the newspaper, tehn, took the dutyto use them. Moreover, the newspaper ancougred people to g oto public schools knownas Millet Mektepleri where the new alphabet was taught.The newspaper fulfilled its respansibility on the Language Revalution Just afterthe Letter Revolution. By the articles published, the newspaper informed people aboutthe Language Congres and language studies in Çorum and tried to enlighten people.
