Abstract (EN)

Energy plays a very important role in the economic and social development of societies around the world. The uninterrupted, reliable and cheapest transmission of energy to the end user also plays an important role in determining the welfare and development level of the society. The development of technology in the 21st century has diversified energy sources. Population growth, climate change and increased energy consumption have made electricity generation from renewable energy sources inevitable. In addition, the importance given to storage technologies is increasing day by day in order to provide uninterrupted and reliable energy. Pumped storage hydroelectric power plants (PDHES) are facilities with the oldest energy storage technology and they make significant contributions to meeting the peak load demand of the network and balancing the network frequency and voltage by repeatedly using the water stored as potential energy. In this study, PDHESs are mentioned in general and the situation of PDHESs in the world and in our country is examined and the feasibility of PDHES facilities on Harşit Stream is evaluated in terms of technical and operational aspects.
