Airport terminal management: International Dalaman Airport applications

Airport operators are the most important infrastructure providers in aviation activities. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and local civil aviation authorities have strict rules on airport operations and design. Also, international aviation organizations' advisory decisions are also taken into account. The operation and management of the land and air sides of the airports are planned in accordance with international rules and regulations. In addition, social and cultural characteristics of the passengers also become important on the land side, especially in the management of the terminal buildings. Airports are very large organizations that include a large number of passengers, airport personnel and support teams. Manpower and its functioning must be planned very well. In addition, it must be managed very well for regular and safe operations, not only for human beings, but also by aircraft and technical equipment and technical teams working in these areas. In this management process, the airport and terminal buildings should be handled in integrity, and plans should be made and managed by experts who know the system very well. Problems that may arise during this management process should be determined in advance or problems that occur should be resolved in a short time. Airport terminal management requires continuity and coordination. In this management process, the method and the strategies to be applied become more and more important every day. In this thesis, Dalaman Airport terminal management elements were investigated and current applications were examined. Basic definitions related to airport and airport terminal management, national and international regulations for airport terminal management and Dalaman Airport terminal management applications were included in the research. In the last part of the research, the terminal management elements of Dalaman Airport were analyzed with a semi-structured interview and as a result of the examinations, the airport terminal management checklist was created.
