Validity, reliability and factor structure of the Turkish versions of purpose in life scale, meaning in life and life orientation test- revision

The aim of this study is to determine the reliability and the validity of three scales; Meaning in Life Questionnıare (MLQ), Purpose in Life Scale (PIL) and Life Orientation Test (LOT). The sample consisted of 648 university students enrolled in various universty. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for PIL, Presence of Meaning in Life and the Search of Meaning in Life subscales of the MLQ and the LOT were 0.63, 0.74, 0.80, 0.79 and 0.38, respectively. The test-retest correlation coefficients for PIL, Presence of Meaning in Life and the search of Meaning in Life subscales of the MLQ and the LOT were 0.79, 0.64, 0.73, 0.75, respectively. A statistically significant correlation was found between the PIL and Presence of Meaning in Life (r = 0.332, p <0.01) and the Search of Meaning in Life subscale (r = 0.137, p <0.01). The results revealed that while the Turkish versions of PIL and MLQ were valid and reliable measurement tools, while the Turkish version of LOT-R was rendered to be invalid and unreliable.
