Hydrological modelling of Firtina stream basin with HEC-HMS

Abstract (EN)

It is important to reveal the relationship between precipitation and flow in the basins through hydrological models, as well as to learn the characteristics of the basins and to realize an effective water management. Hydrological models are frequently used to predict the possible hydrological consequences of climate change and produce hydrological data as the basis for water resources planning, water quality management, and design of water structures. In this study, hydrological modeling study was carried out with HEC-HMS for the Fırtına Basin located between the North Anatolian Mountains and the Black Sea Coast in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey. Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) meteorological data were used in this study due to the inconsistency of the data at the meteorological observation stations in the basin. The model was calibrated and validated using the current observation stations on the Fırtına Stream. The Nash-Sutcliffe (NSE) coefficient was estimated to determine the performance of the model, with the NSE values of 0.62-0.80 for the calibration period and of 0.70-0.86 for the validation period.
