Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted to determine the relationship between the culture of patient safety and unmet nursing care among nurses. It is a descriptive-relational study. The research was carried out with 245 nurses by calculating the sample from a population of 674 nurses actively working in the inpatient clinics of three hospitals affiliated with a university in Ankara. In data collection, the "Descriptive Information Form" ,"Patient Safety Culture Scale," and "Mısscare Survey" were used. The data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program. While evaluating the study data, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to assess the normal distribution of the scale scores, and for parameters that did not fit the normal distribution, the arithmetic mean, mode, and median were compared. Frequency distribution (number, percentage) was given for categorical variables, and descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum) were provided for numerical variables. Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between scales. The patient safety culture scale score was found to be 2.95±0.41, the unmet nursing care services scale score was 1.27±0.68, and the reasons for mısscare survey score was 3.41±0.52. It was determined that the most mısscare survey service was "Providing emotional support to the patient and/or relatives," and the most frequently stated reason for unmet nursing care was "Insufficient number of staff". In the study, a positive relationship was found between age, the number of patients cared for during working hours, and the number of patients cared for during the last shift with the sub-dimensions of the patient safety culture scale. No statistically significant relationship was found between demographic variables and the score of unmet nursing care services. A positive statistically significant relationship was found between weekly overtime hours and the reasons for unmet nursing care score. In this study, a negative relationship was found between the management and leadership sub-dimension of the patient safety culture scale and the material resources sub-dimension of the reasons for unmet nursing care in this sample.
