Abstract (EN)

Professional pride strengthens nurses' professional identities, increases their motivation, and enhances job satisfaction and professionalism. Therefore, it supports the continuity of quality care and fosters an increase in the desire to sustain the profession. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the level of professional pride and professional attitudes among nurses by measuring them. This study was designed in a quantitative descriptive type. A total of 233 nurses working at Kocaeli University Research and Application Hospital between May 2023 and December 2023 were included in the research. For data collection, the Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Nurses' Professional Pride Scale, and Professional Attitude Inventory were used. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Frequency and percentage analyses, as well as mean and standard deviation statistics, were utilized for evaluation. Skewness and kurtosis values were examined to determine the normal distribution level of the data. The relationship between the data obtained from the scales was examined using Pearson correlation and linear regression analyses. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post hoc (Tukey) analyses were used for other analyses. The statistical significance level was accepted as p <0.05 in the study. The mean score of nurses' vi professional pride was determined to be 92.3 (27-135). As the scores obtained from the scale increase, the level of professional pride in nurses also increases. The Cronbach's alpha value of the scale in the study was determined to be 0.89. The mean score of the Professional Attitude Inventory was calculated as 136 (32-160). The Cronbach's alpha value of the inventory in the study was calculated as 0.96. As a result of the analyses, it was found that as the level of professional pride among nurses increased, their professional attitude also increased positively. Regression analysis of the sub-dimensions of the professional pride scale and professional attitude revealed that self-success positively increased nurses' professional attitudes.Encouraging nurses' participation in scientific programs, providing necessary permissions, fostering collaboration between clinical and academic nurses for conducting scientific research and publications are recommended to enhance nurses' professional pride and attitude. Mentorship and professional support programs among nurses can be organized, allowing experienced nurses to guide and support new graduates, thus fostering their professional development and increasing their levels of professional pride and, consequently, professionalism.
