Perceptions of transformational leadership of nurse managers

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the demographic characteristics of nurses working in state hospitals on the characteristics of the transformational leadership that they perceive for their managers. The universe of the research is composed of nurses who are working in the state hospitals located in the province and district of Bursa in year 2016. The sample is the 375 nurses who are involved in the universe and volunteered to participate in the study. A questionnaire was used as the data collection method and the constituted questionnaire form consists of two parts. In this study, the data collected from the subjects were analyzed by SPSS 21 packet program. In the study, the frequency percentage and the average were used among those descriptive statistics. All analyzes carried out in the study were tested at a 95% confidence level. According to the research results, it was found out that female nurses perform the transformational leadership behaviors of their managers at a higher level than the male nurses, single and married nurses perform the transformational leadership behaviors of their managers at similar levels, and nurses in different age groups perform the transformational leadership behaviors of their managers at similar levels. It was also found that associate degree (two-year) holders perform the idealized impact/charismatic leadership behaviors of their managers at a higher level than the bachelor degree holders, and those who have 11-15 years of seniority perform the transformational leadership behaviors of their managers at a higher level than the male nurses having a 6-10 years of seniority.
