Planning and design of allotment gardens: Konya Karatay Karaaslan Allotment Garden

Allotment Garden is a newly introduced term for Turkey and dates back to the midst of 1980's in Turkey. These allotment gardens, the majority of which have been founded and administered by the municipalities, are seen to not have a set of shared regulations and to have crucial distinctions both in their establishment and administration. This study mainly aims to spot the lacks of Karatay Karaaslan Allotment Garden in terms of its planning and design by examining the allotment gardens both in Turkey and across the world, determine the needs and demands of the tenants of this garden and create base data by making suggestions for new allotment gardens to be built in the future. Karatay Karaaslan Allotment Garden, located in Karatay Central District in Konya, was selected as the research area since it is easy to access in terms of information and transportation, and the municipality helped more to share data. This research was carried out in 4 chapters and these are as follow: • A literature review about the subject, the review of samples across Turkey and the world, • Carrying out a field analysis, • Data collection via interviews and questionnaires, • Lastly, analysing and evaluating the findings acquired. As a result of the research, the previous research related to the study and the examples of allotment gardens in both Turkey and world have been examined, the problems of Konya Karatay Karaaslan Allotment Garden have been spotted through the data obtained field studies in the research area and questionnaire administered to the tenants of the allotment garden.
