Effects of different thinning degrees in beech stands on growth and biomass in Hopa Cankurtaran area

Abstract (EN)

Increasing world population and developing technology leads to increase people's needs and in the demand for natural resources. One of the ways to meet the increasing demand of forests is applies social, cultural and economic benefits to provide the optimum operation of a planned and regular application of silvicultural activities. One of the silvicultural applies is thinning. In this study, there were investigated the effects of different thinning degrees in beech stands on growth and biomass in Hopa Cankurtaran Area. For this purpose was selected 9 samples area in this stands. The size of sample areas was 400 meter square. After set of this areas, each of trees were numbered with oil planting in research area. In 2008, there was measured breast high diameter of all of trees. The high of 12 trees in each of areas were measured and registered. The presence of trees was determined by using beech tree volume tables. Total Breast high values all of sample areas were calculated by using formula of ?r2. As a result of research, the highest mean diameter increment (1,21 cm), the highest mean volume increment (0,81 cm3. ha-1) and the highest mean breast increment (577,99 cm2. ha-1) were found in heavy thinning areas, and the lowest mean diameter increment (0,74 cm), the lowest mean volume increment (0,42 cm3. ha-1) and the lowest mean breast increment (27,20 cm2. ha-1)were found control areas. On the other hand, One element of the weight of the entire tree biomass in hectare was found the highest in heavy thinning areas (745,15 kg. ha-1), the lowest in control areas (411,69 kg. ha-1). Consequently, there was determinate thinning applies made positive effect on growth and biomass.
