Abstract (EN)

Due to many different reasons in schools, reading cannot reach a sufficient level of comprehension in the form of a voice statement. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the speed reading techniques on the reading speed and comprehension levels of second grade students. The population of the study consisted of second year students who were educated in the province of Antalya, and the sample consisted of 40 students, 20 of them being in the second class of Göynük Atatürk Elementary School in Kemer province of Antalya in the first and second term of 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, pretest-posttest control group model was used. Both groups were pretested before the experimental procedure and posttest was applied after the experimental procedure. According to the results of the study, it was seen that all the scores of the experimental and control groups were close to each other before the application (p <0.05). When the changes after the experiment were examined, the differences between the achievement test and informative text scores, which were not significantly different between the groups before the experiment, became significant (p <0.05). Considering the fact that the averages are higher in the experimental group, it can be stated that the application provides an increase in the achievement test and informative text scores in the experimental group. While all these increases were statistically significant in the experimental group (p <0.05), the differences between the narrative text and informative text scores were not statistically significant in the control group (p> 0.05).
