The development of the beak - spouted jug in inland North Western Anatolian Early Bronze Age

The aim of the thesis entitled as "The Development of the Beak-Spouted Jug in Inland North Western Anatolian Early Bronze Age" is to determine the form types and development of the beak-spouted jug recovered in the excavations of settlements and cemeteries belonging to the timespam stretching from the Transitional Period into the EBA (ca 3300 BC.) up untill the beginning of the Middle Bronze Age in inland westeren Anatolia. Beak spouted jug is one of the most important pottery forms which is critical in determining the Transition into Early Bronze Age and establishing local chronologies. The form appeared during the Transitional Phase into the Early Bronze Age (EB IA) and rapidly spreads throughout west Anatolia and the Aegean. Western Anatolian Late Chalcolithic pottery had important and unique changes toward the end of the period, resulting in emergence of the pottery groups proper to the Early Bronze Age. So the beak-spouted jug is a unique one among them which eventually would become the characteristic form of the succeeding periods of the Early Bronze Age. In the framework of the thesis eight basic Beak-Spouted Jug form (A-H) and various subtypes have been identified that are obtained from the excavation dated to the Early Bronze Age in inland Northwest Anatolia. Then, these types not only have been campared with each other according to the pottery zones but also with those of the neighbouring regions; thus, well-known in the region in question, but not without a thorough study on the form about the features and chronology, form's emergence and development according to form and ware features throughout the Early Bronze Age are put forth.
