Abstract (EN)

Graphic design on the walls of the interior space surfaces: pragmatic and syntactic analysis Designer, generally gives his/her message by surfaces which form the interior space and particularly which are most communicated with, and focused on by visual ways. These messages on the surface, designed by graphical organizations that show abstract or concrete characteristics, may be oriented to the function or the meaning of space. Interior space has a character and identity, namely a 'theme'. This theme can be supported by direct or indirect graphical / visual messages reflected from surfaces. The goal of this study is to bring up the messages, supporting function of the theme, given with respect to which graphical design elements and principles used. The study is consisted of five chapters; The first chapter: Literature search; concepts of perception, space, surface and communication are investigated in the context of human-environment relations and the connection of these concepts to the study is clarified. Second chapter: Application; in this chapter, pragmatic and syntactic analysises of the focal surfaces in eating spaces of the fifty restaurants from different countries are done. The aims of the focal surfaces are determined by pragmatic analysis. These aims are also involved messages of the restaurant spaces which support the functions of the theme. In the sentactic analysis, constructive and motion characteristics of the focal surfaces giving these aims, figure-ground relations and graphical design elements and principles of surface are investigated to specify which kind of syntactic characteristics the aim is given by. Third chapter: Findings and analysis; findings obtained from the analysis are explained. Fourth chapter: Results; the results of the research are given according to the findings. Fifth chapter: Suggestions; it is specified how the study can be considered in other ways in terms of academic researches and which contributions can be made to the education and application. Keywords: Perception, Space, Surface, Graphical Design, Syntactic Analysis, Pragmatic Analysis
