Public opinions on drinking water Aksaray example

The fact that public awareness of the environment has increased considerably compared to the past in recent years, and has been reflected in their perceptions about drinking water quality. In this study, a survey study conducted in the city center of Aksaray province determined the consumption behaviors, perceptions and ultimately the opinions of the people about drinking water. In the study, approximately 600 questionnaires of different ages and genders were applied in different parts of the city center, and the survey data were digitized with the help of the SPSS program. The participants of the survey stated that they preferred 40,5% Helvadere spring water, 18,8% commercial (carboy) water, 14,7% tap water with household purification device, 13,8% bottled water from the market and only 12,2% tap water. According to the survey study, 60,2% of the public think that the quality of drinking water is of poor quality. As a reason for not using tap water as drinking water, the respondents stated that 48,1% of the water has a bad taste and 26,2% have a fear of causing illness. The reasons why the evaluations about the quality of tap water is generally negative are the effects of organoleptic water quality parameters (especially taste) and events such as norovirus outbreaks and arsenic that have no direct relation with and today's water quality problems. The study shows that the public generally evaluates the quality of drinking water according to their own observations and thoughts. In order to reduce the negative opinions and perceptions of the public about tap water, water supply municipalities should transparently present practices from the source of water to the tap and make different activities.
