Abstract (EN)

It?s expected that attitudes which are being developed towards mathematics affect the success of science and technology lessons since there is a strong relationship between mathematics and science and technology lessons. It?s thought the examination of this situation in terms of various variables will contribute to science education. The purpose of this research is to examine primary 8th grade students' academic achievements in physics unites of science and technology lessons and their mathematics attitudes in terms of several variables and to determine the relationship between the two. Survey method was used in this research. Research was carried out in Giresun in the academic year 2011-2012. The population of this research are primary 8th grade students in Giresun and the sample of this research are 562 primary 8th grade students who study at 8 primary schools from center of Giresun and some towns and villages in Giresun. Personal Information Questionnaire and Force and Motion Unit Achievement Test developed by the researcher and Mathematics Attitude Scale developed by Duatepe and Çilesiz (1999) are used to collect data. In this research, frequency, percent, mean and standard deviation analysis from statistical analysis methods, t-test, Anova with Scheffé test and Pearson's correlation analysis were performed. As a result, students' mathematics attitude scores were found medium level. Also, students' academic achievement scores of force and motion unit were found medium level. It?s determined that the achievement scores and attitude scores of students indicate significantly differences according to gender, their families? education and their settlements. It?s determined that there is a medium and statistically significant positive correlation between students' academic achievements in physics unites of science and technology lessons and mathematics attitudes.Key Words: Mathematics Attitude, Achievement of Science, Science Education, Primary Education
