The relationship between level of using reading comprehension strategies and level of reading comprehension achivement of elementary school fourth grade students in Turkish lesson

The study aims to determine the relationship between level of using reading comprehension strategies and level of reading comprehension achivement of elementary school fourth grade students in Turkish lesson. The population of study that based on relational screening model consist of 938 fourth grade students who receive education in the academic year 2016-2017 in 44 elementary schools in province of Bayburt. The sample of the study is consisted of 503 fourth grade students who are selected according to the proportional cluster sampling method from the cluster sampling method and are not included in the study of preparing the achievement test. The data of the study were collected by the "Reading Comprehension Achievement Test" prepared by the researcher and the " Reading Comprehension Strategies Scale" developed by Susar Kırmızı (2006). The data of study were analyzed by SPSS. 17 program. Findings in the study showed that the level of using the reading comprehension strategies of the students was "sometimes" and the level of reading comprehension achievement was "moderate". In addition, findings in the study showed that the level of using the reading comprehension strategies by elementary school fourth graders did not significantly differ according to the variable of the settlement when they differed significantly according to gender variable; the level of reading comprehension achievement differed significantly according to the variable of gender and settlement place. Furthermore, it was found that there was a positive and highly significant relationship between level of using the reading comprehension strategies and level of reading comprehension achievement of elementary school fourth grade students.
