Evaluation of the efficiency of career counseling and guidanceservices at primary school level

The aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of the studies in the field of career psychological counseling and guidance within the scope of primary school guidance and psychological counseling services by referring to the views of primary school counselors, primary school teachers, and academicians in the field of career counseling and guidance. In this context, interviews were conducted with three primary school teachers, five psychological counselors, and two academicians in the field of career counseling and guidance. The case study which is one of the qualitative research models was used in the research. Interviews were conducted using the title of "Evaluation of the Efficiency of Career Counseling and Guidance Services at Primary School Level Interview Form" prepared by the researchers. Content analysis was carried out with MAXQDA 12, a computer-aided qualitative data analysis program. The first sub problem of the research is in the form of "What are the career counseling and guidance studies in primary schools?" In the findings related to this sub problem of the research, making professional presentations, introducing higher education institutions, applying the techniques of getting to know the individual, and making short interviews are among the findings obtained. The second sub problem of the research is in the form of "What are the problems experienced in career psychological counseling and guidance in primary schools?" The findings related to this sub problem of the research were determined in line with the problems that the participants stated while conducting career counseling and guidance studies in primary schools. These problems are the inadequacy in undergraduate programs, the necessity/internalization of studies and their inadequacy, the neglect of psychological counseling and guidance in primary schools, the failure to fulfill the objectives, the indifference of other staff to guidance studies, the ineffectiveness of the method, insufficient professional competence, socio-economic level, lack of materials, crowded classrooms and inadequacy information about getting career support. The third sub problem of the research is "What are the recommended career counseling and guidance studies in primary schools?" Findings related to this sub problem of the research are cooperation of classroom teacher, psychological counselor and administrator, developing self-awareness, career promotion trips, career promotions/career days, alternative activities, family cooperation, reducing the number of students in the classroom, periodic meetings, career planning portfolio and development of the career awareness.
