Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to determine the level of effectiveness of primary schools in the center city of Diyarbakır in terms of "administrator", "teacher", "student", "school curriculum and education and instruction process", "school culture and atmosphere", and "school environment and parent" through the reflections of teachers and administrators, and whether the school effectiveness differs through job seniority of the participants. In this research, survey method is used. The population of the study is 1072 classroom teachers working in the centre city of Diyarbakır's 40 schools that were converted into primary schools in the education year of 2012-2013. The paradigm of the study is constitued of 29 primary schools and 301 classroom teachers working in these schools. The data collected by the questionnaires was analyzed by frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation by SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Sciences). Research data are collected using "Effective School Scale" which is developed by Mehmet Şişman (1996). The scale which is used is a quinary Likert type and consists of 56 sections. Also, the scale contains six subtitles which are "school administrator", "teacher", "student", "school programmes and education process", "school culture and environment", "school environment and parents". The findings gained from the survey are: 1. According to the opinions of the classroom teachers surveyed, the most effective factor, in terms of the "effective school" factors in the primary schools is 'school programmes and education process" and the least effective one is "students". 2. There are found to be some differences related to "job seniority" in all the subtitles of "effective school" except for the "school administrator". There is difference in the reflections of teachers through their experiences in terms of the level of primary schools in having the characteristics of effective school "teacher", "student", "school programmes and education process", "school culture and environment", "school environment and parents" dimensions. At the result part of the research, literature study and data obtained as a result of implementing has been presented with solution suggestions. Key Words: Effectiveness, School Effectiveness
