The effect of infertility wi̇ves on sexual dysfuncti̇on and mari̇tal harmony

This study was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the effect of infertility on marriage and sexual adaptation of infertile couples who applied to the Reproductive Aid Center for infertility. The sample of the study was a married, literate, infertility, at least 6 month old patient with a history of infertility who was diagnosed with infertility between November 2017 and January 2018. The study included 130 couples who did not have a history of chronic disease to threaten and did not receive a psychiatric diagnosis prior to infertility treatment. Data were collected by Personal Information Form (CBF), Female Sexual Function Scale (FSFI), male Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ACSS), and Marital Adjustment Scale (ESS). Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Spearman's rho correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. The mean age of the women participating in the study was 29.00 ± 5.69. The mean age of the spouses of the women was 31.65 ± 5.70 years. The mean score of FAD of women was 46,65 ± 7,61 and 33.1% of them had low marital adjustment level. The mean FSFI total score of women was above the cut-off score of 26.55 (37.78 ± 15.28), indicating sexual dysfunction (SD). In men, the mean ASAP score was below the cut-off score of> 19, which means SD (13.28 ± 4.96). 23.1% of women and 14.6% of men had SD. FSFI mean scores of women (p = 0.003; p <0.001), educational status (p = 0.002; p <0.05); mean age and female mean scores of women (p = 0.021; p <0.05); male educational status and mean ACSQ score (p = 0.001; p <0.05); The relationship between males' perception of marital adjustment and FSFI (p = 0,020; p <0,05) and mean scores of ESS was found to be statistically significant (p <0,05). The ages of the couples and the mean FSFI and ASRS scores were; educational status and mean scores of ESS; professions and mean scores of ESS and ACSS; The relationship between the causes of infertility and duration of treatment and mean FSFI and ESS scores were found to be statistically insignificant (p> 0.05). According to Spearman's rho correlation coefficient, there was a positive correlation (r = 0.351; p = 0.001) between FSFI and ESS, and a negative correlation (r = -0.235; p = 0.011) between ACSS and PSS (p <0.05). In other words, it was determined that marital adjustment level had an effect on couples' SD. As a result, in this study, infertile couples were found to have more SD in women than men and less sexual problems as marital adjustment increased.
