Faith factor in preventing suicide

The greatest blessing given to humanity is that humankind has been sent to world with appreciation. By disregarding this value attributed to them, some people want to end their existence by committing suicide. This actions shows an increasing trend every year that is why it seems like a serious problem for humanity. Why can not it be prevented, what is the main reason behind it? Staple topic of thesis is observing the effect of belief factor to prevent suicide. Our aim is to draw attention to the main reason behind „depression, domestic violence and substance use‟ that lead to people suicide is actually due to lack of religious belief, the impact of religous belief on suicide decision by eliminating lack of knowledge in one‟s belief, which is the most effective method to prevent suicide and impact of religious belief on suicide decision. In this study, 1123 students at Erciyes University from different faculties such as Aerospace Sciences, Law, Communication, Education, Theology and Economics and Administrative Sciences participated to face to face Survey. 55% of the students participating in the Survey are female, 44,9% are male and one person is bisexual. In the survey, students who believe in existence of hereafter and being reckoned there, reward will be given in case they endure their suffering and misfortune, pray and read stories about prophets in Quran, would not suicide thinking that their problems and troubles would disappear. They believe that Allah will help them that is why they think that suicide is not good way and no matter what they would not suicide. These results show effect of religious belief on preventing suicide. It is known that the treatment of people who attempt suicide, in which the religious belief of person is ignored, is applied only with drugs. It was stated that simply drug treatment would not be enough and applying multidisciplinary working system used in fighting against substance addiction would be more effective to reduce suicide attempts.
