Abstract (EN)

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. There are differences between the patients after diagnosis of breast cancer in the course. To pre-determine the differences in the course of the disease and to decide the appropriate treatment modalities for the patient must take advantage of the prognostic markers. In this study, the effect of CD74 expression on the prognosis of the patients undergoing mastectomy for invasive ductal breast cancer was investigated. Patients, who had been operated on for invasive ductal breast cancer at General Surgery Department of Akdeniz University School of Medicine, between March 1984 and November 1999 were examined. 41 patients, whose post-operative follow-up and treatment information was accessible were inculuded in the study. The operation materials of these patients was examined with immunohistochemical methods. The CD74 and HLA-DR expression levels of tissues and the amount of lymphatic infiltration at these tissues was determined. The comparison of this outcomes with prognostic data obtained from the files of patients was performed. As a result, the data were obtained suggesting that the increased expression of CD74 was caused to the worsening of prognosis by decreasing of the HLA-DR expression and lymphatic infiltration. Further studies in larger series considered to have statistically meaningful results.
