Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the perspectives of Scottish Enlightenment philosophers on the concepts of taste, beauty, and sublime, within the context of the 18th century's efforts to carve out a space for aesthetics. To this end, we will first briefly touch upon the 18th century Enlightenment philosophy, known as the "Age of Philosophy", "Age of Criticism" and "Age of Reason", and consider the journey of reason from England to France and then to Germany. The Scottish Enlightenment, where reason took a backseat and emotions came to the forefront, will be examined throuugh its own unique concepts. The philosophers we will focus on to address the perspectives on taste, beauty, and the sublime in the Scottish Enlightenment are David Hume and Edmund Burke.
