Abstract (EN)
Genetically modified organisms, increasing as a result of developing technology, constitute a large part of our lives today. Gene technologies are used intensively in the foods we consume, the drugs we use, the clothes we wear and in countless other areas. In order to meet the increasing population and the food needs that increase in parallel, serious studies are carried out to bring the requested structural qualities such as obtaining more efficiency from the products in a short time and extending the shelf life to the desired level. However, since this technology is already considered new, the assumptions about the subject make individuals suspicious in many aspects. This issue is also of great importance for Muslims who live their lives within the framework of halal and haram, determined by Islamic rules. Although it is difficult to come to a general and definite judgment regarding GMOs, which are inevitably in our lives, from an Islamic point of view, the characteristics of the source genes used, their effects on health, the relationship of genetic intervention with intervention in natality, the state of being changed, and its relationship with benefit-harm should be evaluated.
