National education an ideology in Turkey during the İsmet İnönü period (1938-1950)

This study aims to show how the studies carried out by the political power on the axis of National Education and ideology in Turkey between 1938 and 1950, when Ismet Inönü was president, coincided with the goals of Kemalism, the official ideology of the period, and their similarities and differences and their contributions to nation building. In this study, education is handled as an ideological device in the construction of official ideology within the limits determined by the dominant will. In other words, education has been explained as a tool of ideology and evaluations have been made in this axis. The concept of ideology is considered as a set of ideas that form a political system or regime to legitimize, socialize the individual and create a common sense of commitment. On the other hand, the course followed by the official ideology, which was started to be built in the period of Atatürk, during the period of İsmet İnönü, in particular, the party and government programs, National Education Councils, Turkish History Congresses etc. studies are examined and discussed. In addition, İsmet İnönü's point of view on education was tried to be interpreted through his speeches and statements. Village Institutes, one of the educational institutions established during the period of İsmet İnönü, have been handled in terms of their contributions to the official ideology and nation building. Along with the multi-party political life, the transformation in education policies has been mentioned and in the last part of the study, the effect of this transformation on the curriculum and curriculum in educational institutions has been tried to be revealed. Finally, the subject was tried to be made concrete by examining the history and dormitory textbooks taught in primary schools in the context of education and ideology. As a result of the study, although some differences were observed in the studies carried out in the field of education during the period when İsmet İnönü was the president, it is understood that the effect of official ideology on education policies continued both from the policies used and the expressions used in the textbooks.
