Abstract (EN)

In this study which it is aimed to examine the microplastic pollution in the surface sediment of the İstanbul Strait, surface sediment samples were taken from 15 different stations along the strait in October 2020. The microplastics particles obtained as a result of the analysis of these samples were classified and examined according to their shape, size, color and polymer types. While the lowest amount of microplastic pollution (865.8 particles/kg) detected at Karaköy station, the highest amount of microplastic pollution (4195.8 particles/kg) was determined at Anadolufeneri station. In this study, where the predominant particles shape was fiber (97%), the ratio of 0-1 mm particles were found to be 51.80%. Raman spectroscopy was used to determine the polymer structure of some microplastic particles. Among the particles identified, the dominant polymer type was PPS.
