İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi'nin emisyon ticareti potansiyeli

Cities play a significant role in the climate crisis, causing approximately 80% of the world's total GHG emissions. But besides all their destructive effects, cities can take major steps to combat climate change, especially Istanbul as a metropolis. In this study, the renewable energy production potential was examined of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which serves a population exceeding 16 million, has more than 85 thousand employees, and currently has 2 subsidiaries and 30 affiliates. And according to this examination, its emission trading potential was calculated. The study highlights that from 2019 to 2023, IMM's highest carbon trading capacity is also within the EU ETS, valued at USD 163,246,142. If we look at the total saving potential between 2019 and 2023, IMM's most substantial financial savings are found within the Sweden Carbon Tax System, totaling USD 301,642,712. Crucially, to conduct this analysis with precision, a comprehensive understanding of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, and Türkiye's engagement in these international frameworks is indispensable.
