Abstract (EN)

In this study, as a result of observing the small scale fishing activities carried out in Istanbul Province as of 2018/2019 season, the objective status of the fisheries activities in the region, the risk status of many species of regional catching, the level of effectiveness of the control mechanism and the sustainability of the small scale fishing which is sustainable in its essence should be put forward. It has been determined that there is an increase in fishing activities compared to previous years in the Istanbul region, where amateur fishing is intensively carried out besides professional fishing. It was observed that the fishing gear used in fishing activities differed from the standards in some places. As a result of frequent illegal, unregistered and unregulated fishing, catching pressure has increased in the region. During the one-on-one meetings with the fishermen, the problems of the fishermen were determined and the measures that could be taken for the economic sustainability of small-scale fishery were discussed and solutions were sought.
