Evalution of the attitudes and self-confidence of secondary school students in Istanbul towards Physical Education and Sports course

The aim of this study is to reveal the attitudes and self-confidence of secondary school students in Esenler district of Istanbul province towards physical education and sports course. The research was designed according to the relational screening model. The research population consists of 21221 students studying in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Esenler district of Istanbul province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The research sample consists of 442 students, 192 of whom are female and 250 of whom are male, selected randomly from volunteer students studying in secondary schools in Esenler district in the 2022-2023 academic year. In the study, Personal Information Form to determine the demographic information of the participants developed by the researcher by reviewing the literature, Physical Education and Sports Lesson Attitude Scale created by Phillips and Silverman (2012) and adapted into Turkish by Kalemoğlu et al. (2016) and Self Confidence Scale developed by Akın (2007) were used as data collection tools. Whether the data showed normal distribution or not was decided by analysing the skewness and kurtosis values. After analysing the Cronbach's Alpha values of the obtained data, statistical evaluations were made with parametric tests. In addition, LSD multiple comparison test was used to determine the differences between groups. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education and sports course were positive and their self-confidence levels were high.
