Physical and mechanical properties of imported tissue paper pulps

Abstract (EN)

In this study, physical and mechanical properties of tissue papers produced from seven different wood pulps were investigated. Wood pulp was imported from different parts of the world. Five of them were obtained from hardwood trees, and two of them were produced from softwood species. The paper specimens were produced by using 100% wood pulps and they are all bleached. For this purpose, four different type tissue papers were produced. Those were napkins, towels, paper towels and toilet dispenser paper. During the production, blending with hardwood and softwood pulps were used in certain proportions. These blends were determined according to intended use of tissue paper. 21 different napkins having the weight range of 15 g. to 18.5 g. were produced. 19 different towels between 35 g and 45 g were produced. Nine different rowel dispenser papers were made with 36 gr to 50 gr. 19 toilet paper?s range was 31g. to 45g. Strength properties of tissue papers produced were determined. For this purpose; measurements of thickness, weight, moisture, green strength testing, dry strength, whiteness, crepe ratio and the rate of elongation were carried out. As a result, the production of tissue papers made from long fibers as the specimen codes of A, C, E and G were found to increase the physical and mechanical properties. It was also determined that using short fibers B, E and F as a filler between long fibers A, C, D, and G pulps contribute to physical and mechanical properties in positive way.
