Abstract (EN)

This present study was aimed to investigate stress alleviation effect of salicylic acid and gallic acid in leaves of wheat seedlings (Triticum aestivum L. 'Gönen 98') exposed to ionizing radiation (100, 200, 300 400 Gy) stress. In this regard, some physiological (leaf length, fresh and dry weight, osmotic potential, etc.) and biochemical measurements were comparatively conducted in the leaves. Phosynthetic parameters (chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, stomatal conductivity), enzymatic (POX, GR, SOD, APX, MDHAR, DHAR) and non-enzymatic (TPC) antioxidant defense system components, osmotic potential of the leaves of the seedlings were determined for this purpose. Accordingly, SA and GaA treatments alleviated IR-induced decreases in growth and photosynthetic parameters and osmotic potential in the seedlings. In addition, the SA and GaA treatments resulted in decreased TPC content and antioxidant enzymes activities in the leaves, that induced by the IR exposure. Also, notable decreases in H2O2 and TBARS contents were determined by the SA and GaA treatments. It was noted that the results of growth and photosynthetic measurements were significantly correlated with the results of antioxidant system components. In conclusion, a stress alleviation effect of exogenous SA and GaA in wheat seedlings exposed to IR stress was determined with high tolerance.
