Abstract (EN)

This study of the correlational cross-sectional type; The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between food addiction, eating behavior and physical activity status in individuals diagnosed with insulin resistance, to develop an approach that will contribute to treatment, and to contribute to the prevention of common chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity. This study was conducted with 50 male and 50 female individuals aged 30-50 years, who were referred to the Diet Polyclinic with the diagnosis of insulin resistance by an Internal Medicine Specialist at Izmit Seka State Hospital between 01.08.2022 and 31.05.2023. In the study, the questionnaire form covering the general information and anthropometric measurements of the individuals, the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire, the Yale Eating Addiction Scale and the short form of the WHO international physical activity questionnaire were used. Laboratory findings of individuals were obtained from the hospital information system. In this study, the mean BMI for women was 35.93 ±5.33 kg/m², and 33.39 ± 4.57 kg/m² for men. A statistically significant difference was found between the physical activity levels of those with and without food addiction (p<0.05). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the mean number of main meals per day in insulin resistant individuals with and without food addiction (p<0.05). Chicken and potato consumption frequencies of insulin resistant individuals with food addiction were found to be statistically higher than those without food addiction (p<0.05). LDL cholesterol levels of individuals with insulin resistance were found to be higher with a significant difference in the case of food addiction (p <0.05). There was a very significant negative correlation between neck circumference and weak HDL and LDL levels (p<0.01). This study, which points out that eating behavior differs according to the status of food addiction in individuals with insulin resistance, indicates that a change in eating behavior will contribute to the treatment of insulin resistance.
