The effect of Jigsaw reading technique on reading-understanding skills of secondary school 6th grade students

Abstract (EN)

Reading and reading comprehension skills play a key role in reaching the information and revealing the original products using the obtained information. The aim of this research is to set out; the examination of the effect of jigsaw reading technique on 6th grade students' reading comprehension skills. In the 2018-2019 academic year, 40 students attending Talatpaşa Middle School in Muratlı district of Tekirdağ participated. In this study, experimental group was used and 6/A students were determined as experimental group and 6/B students were selected as control group by random sampling. In the study, personal information form and test that measures reading comprehension success ın developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools. The content which is prepared to measure reading comprehension skill is applied as a pretest-posttest control group trial model. The data, collected from the survey, were analyzed by using SPSS 20.0 statistical data packet program using frequency, percentage and t-test methods. As a result of the findings obtained by analyzing the data; there was a significant difference between the experimental group students who were teaching with jigsaw reading technique and the posttest scores of the control group students who were teaching traditional methods and techniques in favor of the experimental group. At the end of the research; jigsaw reading technique has been detected as to be highly effective in raising the academic achievement of 6th grade students in reading comprehension skills.
