Juglans regia L. (common walnut), Pterocarya fraxinifolia (Lam.) Spach. (ash leafed walnut) and Juglans nigra L. (black walnut) anatomy of wood

The objective of this study is identify the anatomical wood structures of Juglans nigra L., an exotic plant for Turkey and Pterocarya fraxinifolia (Lam.) Spach. and Juglans regia L. native plants for Turkey. It have been found anatomical wood structures of these taxa by this study. Anatomical differences in the woods of these taxa were also determined. In this study, sample of Juglans regia were taken at the breast height 1.30 m by cutting from Kirazlık village of Trabzon, samples of Pterocarya fraxinifolia that were taken KTÜ and sample of Juglans nigra that were taken from the garden of Faculty of Forestry in İstanbul were taken at the breast height 1.30 m of trees from sapwood area without completely cutting trees. After the preparations were prepared, sections were taken from wood samples. Anatomical characteristics; vessels (tangential and radial diameter of vessel, vessel lenght, number of vessel per mm2), fibers (fiber lenght, fiber width, fiber lumen width, wall thicknes of fiber), rays (ray height, ray widht and number of rays per mm2) and longitudinal position of wood parenchyma were determined. The results obtained from measurements and enumerations were evalutedwith anova test and it has been found that there are anatomical feature differences between the tree species.
